- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 lb yellow potatoes, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 tsp garlic
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 (10 oz) bag frozen peas
Directions
- Set the Instant Pot to Sauté.
- Add oil, onions, celery, and Italian seasoning. Sauté for 3 minutes.
- Stir in hamburger and garlic. Sauté another 5 minutes.

- Pressure cook on HIGH for 15 minutes.
- Allow a natural release for 15 minutes.
- Stir in frozen peas.
- Place the lid back on for a few minutes to warm the peas through.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- Italian seasoning early: Adding it during the sauté step blooms the herbs and deepens the flavor.
- Natural release: Keeps the vegetables from breaking apart and helps the broth stay clear.
- Frozen peas last: They stay bright and sweet instead of overcooking.
- Diced tomatoes: Add acidity that balances the richness of the beef.
Why This Works
- Layered flavor: Sautéing aromatics, browning the beef, and pressure cooking everything together builds a rich, hearty broth.
- Instant Pot speed: Concentrates flavor quickly, turning simple ingredients into a soup that tastes like it simmered all day.
- Budget stretcher: Ground beef, potatoes, and pantry staples make a big pot for less.
- Cozy comfort: Nutrient dense, warming, and perfect for chilly nights.
